A couple days ago I learned that April is the National Financial Literacy Month…. and today I learned that it is also Sexual Assault Awareness Month
I’m sure these were established by two (or more) completely different people but what if I told you there is actually some correlation between them both?
They’re sharing a wound.
Here’s what nobody’s connecting
Both of these things (money wounds and body wounds) live in the same place.
Not in your mind. Not in your logic. Not in the part of you that knows better.
They live in your nervous system.
They live in your body.
And they express themselves the same way:
Freezing when you should act.
Going silent when you have every right to speak.
Giving your power away because saying no (or asking for more) feels dangerous.
Shrinking. Surviving. Staying small.
I’ve watched this in myself. I’ve watched it in the people I’ve worked with. The patterns are identical. Only the content changes.
Trauma doesn’t organize itself by category
When something violates your sense of safety — whether that’s your body, your boundaries, or your sense of worth — your system responds the same way.
It shuts down.
It protects.
It learns: this is not safe. Stay small. Don’t ask. Don’t want too much. Don’t trust.
And then we wonder why we can’t seem to hold money. Why it comes in and goes right back out. Why we self-sabotage right at the edge of a breakthrough. Why we feel unworthy of receiving… whether that’s love, safety, or abundance.
It’s not a money problem.
It’s not even a knowledge problem.
It’s a body that learned, at some point, in some way, that receiving is dangerous.
Consent and energy are the same conversation
Think about what consent actually means at its core.
It means: I know what I’m saying yes to. I know what I’m saying no to. My body, my choices and my energy belong to me.
Now think about your relationship with money through that exact same lens.
Do you know what you’re saying yes to? Do you know what you’re saying no to? Does your financial life feel like something that belongs to you… or something that happens TO you?
Because what I found out by personal experience is:
You cannot hold external wealth if your internal world still believes it’s not safe to receive.
You cannot create abundance if some part of you (maybe a very old part of you) is still waiting for it to be taken away, or scared to ask for more, or not truly believing you are worth it… no matter how bad you want it.
You cannot say YES to money if your nervous system is still stuck in the energy of violation. Of not enough. Of don’t you dare want more.
The silence works the same way too
Violence such as sexual assault thrives in silence.
And so does financial shame.
Nobody talks about the money they don’t have. The debt they’re drowning in. The scarcity that feels so personal it must mean something is wrong with them.
We go quiet. We perform fine. We pretend.
Same mechanism. Different content.
And when it comes to healing… It starts the same way too.
You have to be willing to look at what’s actually there. Name it. Feel it. Stop pretending it isn’t happening.
It’s not comfortable. But it’s the only thing that actually moves the needle.
That’s what healing energy looks like in action.
Not a budget spreadsheet.
Not another book about “money mindset.”
So what do we do with all of this?
Start inside.
With you.
What do you actually feel when you think about money? About having more? About being seen in your abundance?
Get honest with that. Because that’s where the real work is…
And the wildest part is you don’t get to heal just one. When one starts to move, they both do.
So if you’re ready to go deeper, I put together The Wealth Codes for exactly that. It goes to the places no financial content touches on. The inner side. The healing side. The why won’t this actually change side. Download it here for free.
